CONDITION
BODY: Excellent. No rust anywhere. Paint is in surprisingly good condition considering her age. Roof is even good. Almost all systems function (wipers, lights, instruments, batteries). Not functioning (but easily fixed) are the under lights and the novelty horn (plays Dixie). Both batteries are new or new-ish. Bottom line, she starts, runs and stops well and safely.
INTERIOR: New custom headliner, doghouse cover, bench / rear table upholstery is beautiful. Original walls, front seats and floors are showing their age a bit. Holding up well overall.
DRIVE TRAIN: Solid, minus some oil leaking. More on that below.
BRAKES: New front brakes. Old rear. Stops well.
WINDOWS: 14 out of 16 are all fully functional and in good condition, including the windshield which is in perfect condition. One rear window cracked, but holding since 2018. Driver side swiveling window is gone.
BACK STORY
I’ve owned her for 12 years. Bought her in Port Jervis, NY in 2013 and put at least $25k into her. Got ripped off along the way but got some use out of her as a promotional vehicle for my Oyster / Catering company. As The Shuck Truck she served as a back bar for raw bar services.
She was always well cared for and improved along the way. She did 10,000 miles on trailers being transported North and South over the years. I bet I didnt drive her more than 1,000 miles going to and from events. Mostly I ran her just to keep her running well. Very very very part time surf chaser and fun ride.
KNOWN PROBLEMS
SHE DOES LEAK SOME OIL There have been a dozen mechanics over the years that have looked at this. Here is the consensus. There is an issue with a valve seal on the engine. It causes some minor oil leaking. When she’s running and hot the oil is more viscous and will come out of the engine and create some smoke as it burns off on the exhaust pipes. She can put out some blue smoke from time to time too, especially when she is warming up. Its NOT the end of the world and it is fixable. When she’s sitting she does leak some oil at first and as engine cools it stops.
SHE RUNS A BIT HOT There is more engine in her than there should be. BUT, she does have a fan shroud for maximum cooling. Its NOT a good idea to run her in stop and go traffic when it is over 90 degrees. She’s never overheated but she can get up to 220 degrees which, some say, is fine for a Small Block, but it has always made me nervous. I simply dont drive her in really hot weather where I may encounter traffic. So, this is more of a minor limitation than a problem.
DOOR LOCKING Non-functional. But if I’ve seen one thing over the time I’ve had her, NOBODY messes with her.
